Senior Hardware Designer

Our Product Development team has an immediate opening for a talented Senior Hardware Designer with sharp technical skills and innovative approaches to solving technical problems, to play a key role in leading the specification and design of hardware for all of Standard Innovation's (SIC) products.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Feature definition and high level technical electronics specification for new products
  • All hardware architecture, design and testing for SIC products including:
    • Designing C code and assembler based on flowcharts and specifications
    • Designing, evaluating, implementing, and integrating firmware and hardware
    • Debugging firmware using emulators and debuggers
    • Interpreting requirements and sources, and evaluating and selecting components and materials, ensuring required interoperability and environmental considerations
    • Creating, specifying and checking PCB layouts.
    • Undertaking simulation, tolerance/performance analysis
    • Testing and debugging circuit designs and prototypes
    • Provide manufacturing support, documentation in NPI and sustaining for products as required: electronics documentation to prepare products to hand over to manufacturing
  • Manufacturing test specifications, automated test jig/fixture design, manufacturing support for NPI as required
  • For all SIC products and factories: creation and ongoing maintenance of a single test environment for data/yield collection for traceability and quality improvement
  • Monitor and understand trends in technology
  • Project management to ensure deadlines are met
  • Work closely with Mechanical and Industrial Designers and may be involved in reliability, integrity and/or compliance aspects relating to product design and qualification

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
  • 10+ years’ experience in hardware (digital and analog circuitry) and firmware design at the microprocessor level;
  • RF design experience (low power radio/Bluetooth LE)
  • Knowledge of analog design
  • Experience with the following:
  • Assembler programming, and Microchip Inc. processors
    • C programming RF processors
    • Designing within miniaturized mechanical constraints
    • Familiarity with motors, motor control, batteries, PCB layout process, and vibration issues.
    • Test equipment, oscilloscopes, Altium
    • Familiarity with international electronics certification regulations
  • Solid communication skills with good writing skills
  • Excellent time and self-management skills and ability to meet and manage individual deadlines; Project management experience an asset
  • Experience with revision control workflow, preferably Git
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills coupled with leadership skills to mentor other members of the team
  • Ability to work well independently and as part of a team
